Hey guys! My Alocasia recently bloomed and after the first day of being opened, it curled over like this. Is this normal? I thought the whole thing was supposed to open up. Do I need to open it or just leave it be?

I would just take this as an educated guess from an Alocasia enthusiast, it should be done opening! The white bulb under the open bit is actually the female part of the flower. If you want you can use a paint brush or Q-tip to brush the pollen off the open bit. You’ll have to make a small hole into the white bulb and then dust the pollen in there and close up the bulb. Thats how it makes seeds! However I wouldn’t let it bloom twice, that’s an extremely exhausting thing for the plant to do already and having two might affect the frequency of leaves. You also don’t have to pollenate them at all if you don’t want to.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve heard I have to rub the pollen from one of them to the other one? (From the male to the female) but is that the correct way? Or should I do it exactly how u said above? This is my first time doing this and I probably will pollenate and I wanna do it right but I’ve heard sooo many different things😄

From my understanding the Alocasia flower is the whole system. The male part is the actual flower that unravels, the spherical part under the flower is the reproducing organs. You can search on tik tok for Alocasia pollination and look for @botanicallybe. She is an amazing creator and gives a lot of knowledge on this subject, she also has a humongous Alocasia Zebrina named ‘Ziggy’ that is truly something beautiful.
