So, I am worried I messed up when I did a mass repotting this weekend. (I listened to someone that may not have been as knowledgeable as I’d thought) I am mostly looking for opinions, and if I should remix soul and repot again. I mixed my own mix. It consisted of 1 part vermiculite, 1 part Perlite, 1part coco coir & 1-1.5parts black gold potting mix. Is this ok? Or should I restart? Potted is several philodendrons, pothos, & baby Thai constellation

That sounds like a pretty good mix for aroids, I usually like to include a little bit of orchid bark with mine. But they don’t like to be in soaking wet soil for long, so the drainage is understandable. The mix I usually use is something like: • 50% Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Soil • 20% Perlite • 15% Orchid Bark • 10% Coco Coir • 5% Worm Castings But I’ve found that the most important part is usually just to avoid traumatizing the roots too much especially for not very established plants. I know Thai constellations can be a little prone to stem rot. 😳 So yeah… That’s all I can say as a fellow hobbyist… #notaprofessional. 😄

That’s too much vermiculite for most houseplants’ preferences. Despite the way it’s often marketed vermiculite increases water retention and doesn’t do a lot for drainage. I use it only sparingly in new seedling and rooting mix. For the pothos you’re probably fine cuz they hardy. Just watch for rot and signs of water logging. But for the philodendron I would definitely repot in a mix more like the attached. They require air contact on the roots between watering so you need a mix that will drain well and dry out a bit. For the Thai constellation, if you can get your hands on a few amendments I would mix in some bark, coir chips (not fines), and maybe a little pumice- and mix in a little more of that black gold.

I really appreciate the insight. I had a feeling this was a little “off”
