Hi! I’ve been doing pretty good with my plants and i recently started having problems. A few of my plants have been dying and looking terrible. I take good care of them but I’m very concerned. The leaves have been turning mushy and falling off. They also look brown and sometimes lack color. I was wondering how I can fix this or if I should just replace them with easier plants. If you have plant suggestions i would appreciate it! Thank you!

Mushy leaves are typically overwatering issues. Especially with the peperomia varieties. Their leaves hold water so you don't need to saturate the soil. You might have to repot it. Changing the soil will help to dry out the roots and give you a chance to check for mold and root rot. You'll be able to smell it if it's root rot. 🤮 To ensure proper drainage for your potted plant, make sure to choose a pot with adequate drainage holes or add extra drainage to the soil-pearlite and leca work for me. Additionally, make sure the soil is not too compacted, as this will prevent water from draining. Hope it comes back!!🤞

Thank you! I do think I overwatered it a few weeks ago. I let it tried out and I removed all of the mushy leaves. I watered it again today. It doesn’t smell bad but it could be possible it has root rot. I appreciate your advice!

Do you have a moisture meter? Probably overwatering. I treat Planta’s watering reminders as telling me to CHECK if it needs water. Not as a directive to do so. I don’t have good lighting so my plants take longer to dry out.

Thank you! I just downloaded the app yesterday and I watered it because it said to water it. The top layer was dry. I’ll try and not water it again for a while

Ah ok, I assumed you had been following Planta for a while. It’s hard to say what the issue is, because it’s really a combination of water, light, soil, pot size, etc. If you change one parameter, the others all shift with it. Peperomia are kind of hard. If you are looking for easy plants, pothos (let it dry out 100%), peace lilies (don’t ever let them dry out 100%), or snake plants (let them dry out 300%) are good.

Yeah a few of my plants have died and normally I never I have that issue. It makes me really frustrated because I’m normally really good with plants. I’ll probably just replace them with something easier. Thank you!
