Sometimes the frequency of watering via Planta does not always line up with the needs of your plant. An app can only try to calculate the appropriate frequency based off of the information we put in for location, pot size, soil mixture, etc. After a quick search on the internet I found that for a calathea: (1) they prefer soil that is consistently damp, but not water logged; (2) bottom watering is better but can take some time; too watering works but you want to water enough to over flow the bottom saucer, which ensures a thorough all the way through watering; (3) since you can find several recommendations on how often to water them, I did find that it is suggested that when the top 2” is dry then the plant is ready to water. To test soil dryness, you can use your finger or you can get wooden skewers and put them into the soil to see if it’s damp or dry. Hope this helps.

Calathea are super difficult, the trick is distilled water and high humidity.

Thank you kindly, I do water with filtered water. And spray frequently I shall keep on eye on not letting the soil dry out. Thanks
