How do you keep gnats from around your plants? They aren’t so bad on some other plants. I went to check on this one and it had a lot of them flying around it. That is the moss that came with the plant. Thanks in advance.

As you can see from the yellow sticky’s, I had been battling this issue in my plan room. It was very severe where the sticky’s were more black than yellow. I have, 3 pitcher plants , 1 flytrap, 2 sundews and 2 drosera. I had to remove the a few cause the gnat overload was too much. I have done, neem oil ā€œteaā€ and mosquito bits ā€œtea. I have sprayed the tops with peppermint oil. In the end, all it took was taking all my plants to the yard and letting them roast (within reason) in the sun for 2–3 days. When the plant need water, don’t pour over the top, put the pot in a tray with water for 10 ish minutes. Gnats lay eggs in the top 2 inches of soil so let it dry.

Yellow sticky gnat traps work like a charm!! Replace them every so often in the summertime and in the winter they can last a bit longer.

I’ve had success with adding a layer of pebbles on top of the soil. The pebbles make it so the gnats cannot get into the soil and if they are already there in the soil, they are unable to get out again. If you have a lot flying around, use the stickies or even take a glass and put fruit or moist soil in it. Cover with plastic wrap poking tiny pin holes in it. The gnats are able to get in but not out. Once you successfully get rid of the gnats in the air, control on the soil will help keep them gone. Hope this helps.

Ok so a few months back I was noticing more and more gnats. It wasn’t an infestation yet but I knew if I ignored it any longer it would just get worse. I got those yellow sticky traps, but they only helped so much. After so much research I opted for captain jacks neem oil max and also diatomaceous earth for any other pests I couldn’t see (I was a paranoid mess after seeing the gnats šŸ˜…) I sprayed the oil on every plant and dusted a bit of D.E on the soil of most of them. Two days later… completely gone!!! No more gnats or whiteflies or little beetles that I kept noticing! I used both of these products the same day so I can’t tell you if one worked better than the other, but I know In combination they worked wonders. It’s been around 2 months now and I’ve only repeated this process once and still no sign of those buggers!
