I just looked at the roots of my lemon button fern. 😶 Apparently, it was grown in some kind of fabric. Not fabric with soil—just fabric all the way through. I did my best to break it away without doing too much damage, but I doubt this one will recover.

Grrrr! šŸ˜– I hate it when they do that. Makes me question if mine are in same situation. I wish a horticulturist would jump in explain this! (Other than they want to sell plants).

Yes, I think they’re avoiding customer churn. ā˜¹ļø I took a look at my gardenia bonsai’s roots, as well, and it was the same thing. That’s not the way to grow a bonsai. I think she’s a bit better off, though.

I’ve only had her for about two months and she just started to give up after about a month. So I’m really hoping she’ll pull through now I’ve freed her roots. šŸ¤žšŸ¼

Ugh I call those death plugs. I hate them! Sometimes I even find ones made of thick plastic that are so hard to cut through without damaging the poor plant! But if I leave them, the plant eventually dies of root rot or suffocating roots
