Show me the Greens!

I’m a little worried about my Money Tree. The leaves tend to get droopy, and will sometimes “dry out”. I read that this could be due to over-watering. Here’s a photo of the roots… which don’t look like a lot! It’s in a well-drained pot, 14”. Do you have any success stories and tips that I can use? Is it sick?

Lol! 😂 The photo of your roots I can’t unsee as an upside-down doll, with a mini-blue-jean skirt on. Right??!! Sorry total segway to your question.

My guess would be that your pot was way too big. A money tree this small would really only need like a 6 inch pot, otherwise there’s just too much soil for it too dry out between waterings. It looks like the roots are rotted :( you could try cutting them all back or at least giving them a good wash in diluted hydrogen peroxide. Then replant in a small pot, keep out of direct sunlight, and water only when the top half or more of the soil is dry. I would also recommend cutting back some of the leaves. Hopefully it will make a comeback!

Check to make sure all the trunks are viable too, the way they braid them tends to create rot situations.

I agree that it looked like root rot. Prune away the brown roots, remove as much of the old soil as possible, and repot the plant in fresh, fast draining soil. Don’t give it too much water because there aren’t many roots right now, and don’t fertilize yet. It will need to recover and until the roots are more developed again, it went need to get light on its leaves to get nutrients. I had a root rot situation with my money tree and almost lost her six months ago, and she’s still just growing tiny branches and leaves. It takes a long time for them to recover.
