I’m new here. Are flowers different from the leaves on basil? I’ve been advised to pinch the flowers to keep it healthy. In fact I’m unsure about pinching buds or flowers on some of my other plants too. I know this is a very basic thing I should know but I don’t.

Here is a basil flower and as far as pinching off flowers? I only do it if it’s necessary to keep the plant producing. So for basils sake yea I’d pinch them as the leaves are what you want not the flowers.

Yes they are different. Pinching the flowers on basil allows it to continue producing leaves. If a basil plant flowers, then it will stop growing and you can’t eat anymore leaves than the ones that are already there. Prune your basil regularly to encourage growth. Pinching buds or flowers on other plants will depends on the plant and the purpose of their flowers
