I am heading out of town for a week and don’t have anyone I trust to water my indoor plants. What have you done? My spider plant is my biggest concern but I also have a Jade, lily, and a few others.

I have bought selfwaterers from Amazon and they are wonderful. Blumat classic plant waterers. I use them all the time with some of my ones that need to be constantly wet.

Fill a bowl or pitcher or something with water and place close to plants. Run some cotton string or macrame cord (something non coated or waxed) from the water to the plant. Make sure there is plenty of extra on both ends, the shorter the trip the better (ex. Sitting next to each other on a surface). If the bowl is big enough, plants can share. They can draw up what they need.

That said, unless it is a type of plant that needs to stay moist, a week isn’t a super long time. If they get a good drink and drain right before you go, and attention as soon as you get back, I would think they’d be fine, for the most part. My lily gets a bit dramatic when it needs to be watered, but it always bounces back just as dramatically 🎭

I would be sure and give them all good soaks before you leave (as long as you haven’t most recently watered them 😬). A week will be ok. Also, if you close the curtains slightly and they get a little less sun, that would help them too. less sun means less water.
