Anyone have an Alocasia Silver Dragon? Everything online says it’s high maintenance but I’ve found so much conflicting advice on how to best take care of it. I’ve had it for a few months & just want to make sure I’m not slowly killing it.

Alocasias are picky. But if you have them in the right spot with lighting and temperature and maintain and water appropriately they can be pretty low maintenance. I have a red secret and once I got it in the perfect place she started growing pretty quickly.

It looks happy and healthy! I have one as well and it seems to be a content, slow grower ☺️

How long have you had it & do you humidify or mist it?

I recently brought four home. All had good roots, but suffered something while growing leaves because 90% of them are cupped at the tip. I’m watching them for decline because you never know!

I’ve had mine over a year and keep it in a bathroom with an east facing window and literally only think about it once a week to check if the soil is moist. Only issue I’ve had is it got spider mites for a period of time early on because I let the plant dry out but other than that it’s not a fussy alocasia.

I’ve heard the bathroom trick but I unfortunately don’t have a window in my bathroom. I have a mister bottle so I do that like 1x a week but not sure if that’s enough.

Your Silver Dragon is looking beautiful so far! Tips to keep it that way: -The soil nurseries usually sell Alocasias in is wrong for this species. Change it out to chunky forest floor or Aroid mix or Letchuza Pon. This will avoid future rot issues. -They like to dry out slightly between waterings, don’t keep them completely moist all the time. -They need way more light than most people have in there homes. Give it a grow light. Do these 3 things and it will thrive. Luck be with you!
