While I was watering my moon cactus I noticed that it’s stem (yes I know it’s a grafted plant and can’t survive on its own) is really mushy and brown, the bulb has also lost some of its color, I’ve never encountered this with any of my other plants so I’m wondering if this is normal for this kind of plant or if something else is happening? Please help☹️

Probably a sign of rot due to overwatering. How often are you watering it & does the soil drain quickly when you water it?

I water it once every 8 days, and it drains pretty quickly

Are you checking if the soil is dry enough all the way to the bottom of the pot? Sometimes these types of plants store water in their leaves and don’t need to be watered often until that water source depletes. The only way I can see this plant surviving is if you cut above the rot, allow it to callous over for a couple hours and repot it in new soil. Because the old soil had that rotting bacteria on it, it’s best to just chuck it. And make sure it’s not sitting in standing water, like the little tray you have, make sure once watering is over and all the water has drained through after a couple of minutes, empty that dish and place the plant back to catch any extra. It’ll just soak the extra water up along with the water already given and lead to more rot.
