Just got a fiddle leaf fig and wondering if i can encourage growth on the lower trunk? I hear they are especially susceptible to shock.

I would love to learn about this as well

The way I’ve gotten my plants and trees to grow leaves on the lower trunk is to prune back new apex (top) growth or, for bonsai, trim the roots and keep them in the same size pot until new foliage/branches sprout. In my experience, both of these methods make the plant fill out. However, if you trim the apex, the plant won’t grow as tall, although the new branches could grow up and out. So I’d weigh the decision carefully before pruning her at all.

usually once the lower trunk is bare it won’t grow more leaves unless something happens to the top growth then it might start branching, but this is a bad thing bc it means the plant is dying. yours looks amazing, i wouldn’t worry about the bottom as it’s a tree and it will eventually become a thick trunk with no leaves
