Any suggestions for keeping a succulent outside for full sun while preventing it from being rained on, without using a full greenhouse? It’s just one four inch terracotta pot.

Rain is not an issue if your soil is properly prepared. I use at least 1/2 draining material (more for cactus and lithops) like pumice and decomposed granite, and the rest is potting soil. I have them outside and can get rain on several times a week without issue, as long as it is hot outside. The real problem is wet + cold. That leads quickly to root 😔

I’m in zone 5, so cold will be relevant pretty much all summer as temps drop at night.

If you are concerned about the succulent becoming overwatered try to keep it covered on the porch. But if that is not an option you can take it inside until the weather is nice again or simply let it be.

I should probably say it’s already distressed… taking it outside is the last ditch effort to save it. I think it really needs full sun.

I’m sorry 😕 other that bringing it inside every time it’s going to rain, there’s not much else to do. I do that during the winter, but it is very hard on me since I have many heavy pots full of succulents. I’m in zone 9, so the great majority of the time I can just let them be outside. What type of succulent are we talking about? Some do very well even under snow
