Quick question, Can you bring a leaf of a plant on a plane, no soil or anything? Thinking about leaf propagating a plant from my friend’s house in a different state. Thanks!

Copy and pasted - “According to the TSA rules, you can bring plants on a plane ride. You can place plants in your checked bag or carry-on bag when coming to the airport. However, while TSA agents allow you to bring a plant through security and onto a plane, they also have the final say to ensure passenger safety if it can proceed to the aircraft. Also, remember that you shouldn’t have the plant in water when going through airport security. Airport security won’t allow that plant to go through security screening since it is a liquid, so you should put it in soil”

Thanks guys! I am going to put a leaf cutting in a ziplock bag, so no issue with soil or water will even be brought into the conversation!

I just brought several cuttings in my carryon on a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago with no issues whatsoever.

My mom has brought me plants numerous times via flight. She wraps the roots gently in paper towels and wets them, and then puts the root part in a ziploc baggie (sometimes the whole plant doesn’t fit). As long as you’re flying contiguous US or same country you should be fine. Flying to/from Hawaii and Puerto Rico are more restricted than the rest of the states. Not sure about Alaska.
