What would be a good indoor starter plant for a beginner? It would need to be cat safe too! I’d also love to know how everyone prevents insects in their indoor plants!

Hoyas are good! They’re more similar to succulents as far as watering goes but they’re less fussy in my opinion. And when it comes to preventing pest, choosing plants with less compact structures is a good start, but cleaning and shining your plants is a good way to do regular pest checks. For preventative products, I would recommend a good neem oil spray and mosquito bits.

Succulents like “Rock Purslane” are super easy indoors and outdoors. Example, I forgot these in my bedroom on top of armoire for almost a year. Started watering them again a month ago and they came back.

Yes. Mine like to prune the long leaves off even when they are hanging
1 likeI would also definitely recommend a spider plant! They are safe to all my animals and so easy to take care of. I think I have 8 spider plants in my room now🤭 they are my favorite.

Hoyas are a nice slow growing, tolerant plant that Are pet safe. If you want a faster grower or something not vining, peperomia is a great option. Both families have dozens to hundreds of varieties to choose from, so you can definitely get something that fits your aesthetic.
