Can someone help me ID this and also give me tips to care for it please? I put it outside and i think it got burnt. Brought it back inside in my room (gets pretty hot in here) but im not sure how to treat it. Any help is appreciated! For Id it might help to know that the underside of the leaves are purple/brown Thanks!

that’s a ctenanthe setosa (closely related to calatheas and marantas) . i’d cut off any burnt leaves, keep it out of direct sunlight, and keep it moist but not wet.

It looks like the pot is a bit too big for the plant and it might also be placed too far from natural light ☺️

Yes!! I learned a lesson or two on pots that are too big for plants. When a pot is too big, the plant routes all of the energy into filling up the soil with more roots. So it’s focused on root growth and not foliage growth. I have saved so many of my plants with this little piece of information! Hope it helps!

The other issue is that big pots mean lots of extra soil without roots pulling water out of the soil. You end up with a big damp pot of rotted roots. I learned this the hard way which led to a lot of rehab time for a few of my plants.

The common name is Never Never Plant. Super dramatic. They like part sun part shade, high humidity, and they’re sensitive to some tap water. I mist mine about 1x a week with tap water that I’ve let settle in the bottle overnight. I’ve read that helps and my plant seems pretty happy. Good luck!
