Hi. Does anyone know know the correct kind of palm this is? I just bought it from Lowe’s in their clearance rack and it is listed as an Areca Palm but every app scan I do brings it up as a Parlor Palm. Since it doesn’t have any mature leaves on it I can’t tell. Please help?

I can’t tell from the photo as the parlor palm and the Areca palm look very similar, especially when they’re young. But if it was sold as an Areca and that option isn’t included in the app, I’d add it as a new type of plant. They don’t come from the same geographical area and have different care needs, especially when it comes to light. The Areca prefers bright, direct light to some shade, while the parlor palm likes indirect, filtered light.

Thank you. I ended up cutting off all the dead ends, which were on every leaf. And there were a few branches that just ended up pulling out of the soil because they were completely dried up and dead. I live in Henderson, Nevada. I got this hoping it could tolerate the sun and heat?

I think you stand a better chance with this than with a parlor palm, but why don’t you do a search on the best care for an Areca palm? That will give you some indication of how it will tolerate the climate where you live, how to place it in terms of light and temperature, and what the watering needs are.
