I’ve been water propagating a Monstera for about a year now and I’m moving it to soil now. Any opinions on what the best soil mix is?

For an aroid like Monstera’s I use a brand called IvyMay’s. But as long as you have a good brand specifically labeled for indoor plants so that it gets proper drainage/doesn’t hold onto water and ruin those beautiful roots!

I use an aroid mix called Dirtbag. It’s from Bros With H*es plant company. Won’t let me spell out that word for some reason.

I use a tropical mix containing orchid bark, coconut coir and other nice substrates. You can check out the tropical soil among the recommend soils in the app, or Plantas YouTube channel where we recently released a video on how to mix a tropical soil.

Oh OK great! Thanks so much. I didn’t realize there was a YouTube channel. I’ll check it out.

I mix my own soils up. Really any solid all purpose potting soil, horticultural charcoal, volcanic pumic/extra chunky perlite (def prefer pumice), orchid bark/coco chips (or both), and usually some worm castings (especially if the all purpose mix isn’t all that. I even reuse most of the larger chunks when repotting just sift them out.

Hey. I was creeping on your beautiful collection of plants and I saw your ficus tineke. I bought a single stem cutting a year and a half ago that’s been grow great and I’d like to chop and prop it to make the pot more full. Is that what you did with yours? If so how much would you cut off the top to prop? And would you just put it in the soil?
