Hi, this tree is 40 - 50 years old, and it has been struggling, and sometimes branches rot and have to be cut. Most of it is dry, and I recently buried one of my beloved pets, and found a lot of sand mixed into the soil. So I was wondering if I could use an organic potting mix/soil, and if that would help it? We have some dead branches that don’t flower, or have leaves, so it does need to be pruned sometimes, for new growth. Also, my younger brother climb’s it, and I don’t think that is good for the tree. Also, I was wondering if duck poop could help it. We have plenty of that. I don’t want to mess anything up, so I am not sure. Maybe the soil content is fine, and it is close to it’s time?

It’s a beautiful tree! I don’t really know a lot about outdoor trees, but I’d recommend finding a reputable arborist to check the tree for diseases and pests. I’ve been dragging my heels on doing the same for a couple of my trees. I hope you can find the help you need to save your tree! 🌳

One year, I think last year, or the year before, or the year before that, it made tiny cherries the size of a dime or a little smaller. I don’t know if that means it is really happy, or, maybe it doesn’t mean that?

I do also recommend bringing an arborist to have a look at your tree. Make sure they are certified and has a good reputation. There’s way too many “arborists” that doesn’t now what they’re doing and too many trees are ruined.

Your tree is magnificent!! I’d definitely agree with the others—have a qualified arborist take a look at it. If it still has new growth, there’s still hope, but it might need pruning and some other care. Keep us posted!
