Struggling Calathea! Does anyone have some suggestions on what might restore this poor plant to its former glory? It went from beautiful and healthy to losing all its leaves. Two more have sprouted so there might be hope. But I don’t want to kill it by trying to help it. Thank you!

  1. Hiya!

I just bought a little one. According to You Tubers it must have its high humidity, water and sunlight needs met or it will have a fit. Also prone to spider mites. So I’m thinking…dang why did I buy it? Will follow for responses. (Also it’s an acid loving plant)

Yes, I saw the same online and it has been extremely touchy with anything I try. I thought it was getting too much sun because it kept wilting and the watering schedule didn’t seem to be soon enough. I moved it to a shadier spot and started misting it every few days to give it some humidity. But that only seemed to make it more upset - so I moved it back to its original sunny spot, and all the original leaves died. It’s hanging on, but barely. Best of luck with yours!

I don’t think it likes direct sun at all. Only indirect (I think).

If you have a bathroom with indirect light try putting it in there. Calatheas are so so picky!
