Help! What do I do with my monstera. It doesn’t use the the bamboo sticks and it’s so flimsy. Does it need more fertiliser or does it need a bigger pot?

It definitely looks like she could use a repot. Check the roots to see if she is rootbound. Regarding the sticks, try using velcro to hold the stems to the bamboo sticks to keep her upright.

Thank you! How do I know if it’s rootbound? Where do I find Velcro? Do they sell it in hardware stores?

If you see more roots than soil or if the roots are coming out of the drainage holes, it is rootbound. Also, if you notice she is drying up quicker than usual. As for the Velcro, yes, your local box stores should have some or Amazon 🙂

I learned this from YouTube… when monsteras are planted in nursery, they don’t pay attention to the aerial roots. For Monsteras, you can tell which is the front of the plant and which is the back because the aerial roots are the back and the Leaf front grows away from aerial roots. To make your Monstera root to the pole, you have to orient each Leaf bulb the same with the aerial roots facing the pole, and the Leaf front facing away from the pole. The Leaf front is when the Leaf Face faces you. It will take some twine and a repot. Once the aerial roots face the pole, they will root. One a plant roots, she grows. Hope this helps and makes your monstera look less haphazard. It did on mine. 👍🏽

Wow! I had no idea 🤩 What are aerials roots? Are that those brown stringy things. I’ve been thinking of cutting them off 😅 I think they are a bit ugly. LOL!

Looks like it needs to be repotted and it needs something thicker for climbing support on those roots sticking out like a thick moss pole. There’s a lot of youtube videos on how to build moss poles from scratch. I keep my monstera right in front of a giant bright window and rotate it every week to avoid leggy stems. Hope this helps!

These are all great tips! My monstera looks like this one and I just know it needs a new pot. But I’m waiting till it warms up a bit first.
