Hello! I have this cute little guy and every time a new leaf starts to grow one of the older ones near the bottom turn yellow and dies. Is that normal? I’d assume so but I’m not the most knowledgeable

Exact same thing happened to me. I think the leaves that grow from bottom aren't as strong as the ones that come from center. I just cut the bottom ones.

I just got that plant for my niece. It’s an Aglaonema Silver Bay. I say Aglo-nema but the spelling is different. ( too many vowels!). I will try to send you a picture I screen shot for you if it’s care.

If you take a picture on this app, it will identify and tell you how to care for it. Just remember this is AI, so it probably will vary a bit where you live.

It’s in a self watering pot that I fill whenever it gets empty and it’s on a shelf in my living room about 6’ from a window

Hmmm I personally do not like the self watering pots bc they always leave water at the very bottom and it leads to root rot but that shouldn’t be the issue try cutting the second oldest leaf at the bottom maybe one or two at the bottom to give the plant time to push out more before it loses a leaf I have had to do that a couple of times with my plants and it works every time

I cut the bottom 2 this time. The leaves have always grown up from the middle and down so I assumed that was normal

Besides the self watering plant it’s in very little if any.
