Check it for any pests or anything bacterial that could possibly spread to any other plants you have. I quarantine my new plants for at least 2 weeks before letting them join my current collection in case of any possible bugs or infections. I would definitely check the roots for rot and see how well draining the soil is, especially if it was in the clearance section of your Lowe’s. They are lower light tolerant plants, but they enjoy bright light as well, and grow faster in it, so if you don’t have a low-light window, placing it within 1ft of a south window, or in the windowsill of east/west facing windows are great for it. They can get dusty pretty quickly, so you might wanna wipe them down periodically with a microfiber cloth or microfiber gloves. Last thing I’d wanna add is to make sure the pot matches the size of the root ball, since these tend to enjoy getting root-bound and being snug in their pots, and being in a pot that’s too big can lead to overwatering of the plant. For example, here’s one of my ficuses, and though she’s a larger one, her pot is smaller to fit the size of her roots, not the size of her leaves. Hope this helps!

One last thing! The ficus elastica is commonly known as the rubber plant because its sap is liquid latex. If you or anyone you know has a latex allergy, wear gloves when handling it and warn anyone with that allergy to avoid touching it. It’s also toxic if ingested by cats and dogs, so its best if placed somewhere where any felines won’t try to eat it or knock it over. Good luck! 👍

Thank you! I have most of plants just sitting on the floor under a grow light, and probably half of them are toxic. I just trust that my cat has enough instincts not to eat them🤭
