Give me everything you got, lol. I've recently gotten into plants a little over a month again and it's been a sure struggle.. well still struggling here. What's you best advice to a beyond beginner getting into the plant world? So far I've picked some pretty bad specimens to begin with, struggled with humidity, overwatering, you name it. My best plant thus far has been my satin, his name is Herbert (he was a rescue, but at the time I had no idea...) Here's what's left of my little plant family - Herbert - the satin Fred - the calathea Gerald - the zebra And our newest brother... Archibald - the alocasia Please help me keep them alive ☹️🙏

The best move I made as a newb is to bottom water. It helps with the overwatering.

I don’t know how you’ve kept an alocasia and a calathea alive as a beginner. but good luck. I like bottom watering

The alocasia is new, lol so hopefully he will not be on the way to the graveyard. Now the calathea on the other hand has been a journey at one point he was rolled tighter than a taquito... I knew for sure it was over but he came back. Thank you I need all the luck I can get!

alocasias like moist feet and lower light like indirect ik the app says give ut lighter light but like no my calathea is also in low light if overwatering is ur issue i sould suggest terracotta pots plants together make more humidity when i first got in i bought 20 plants at once and figured it out from there but yknow

The lighting is so tricky I popped for a grow light because I don't get much bright sunlight for these babies.

Get a moisture meter! I’ve purchased one and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made for my plants. You can get one off of amazon. I do have 4 alocasias that are doing super well. My oldest one has given me 5 new leaves within the last 3 months. With 2 more on the way. I have mine on my on my East facing window with all my other tropical plants. They get the morning sun which they seem to be happy with. I also have a humidifier running and keep it at a range between 60-65. I have my humidifier set to turn off once it’s at that range. The soil I’ve been using for them in Mircale gro tropical mix with a little extra orchid bark.

Add to cart! I run the humidifier 9hrs a day but have no idea how humid it actually is. Wishing the best to you and your thriving jungle

I use a chopstick to see if my soil is still moist. Just stick it in there and see if it comes out moist or not. Cheaper than a meter!
