I know food scraps and coffee grounds. What else would be useful in starting up a small compost pile?

Some other things you can add are egg shells, dried leaves, grass clippings, cardboard and paper towels! Avoid adding any meat, dairy or oil.

My large outdoor turning compost bin arrives today! I’m so hype! I already have some leave and stem clippings to pop in there and I got a wood chipper so I’m going to compost and last week I mulched all the dead branches in my yard so they’ll be ready for overwintering here in NY later this yearn

Is compost good for houseplants, too, or just outdoors gardens?

Yes it is great for house plants! A couple handfuls put into potting soil can provide house plants with organic nutrients 😁

If you compost, should you not fertilize?

Love this!! I am curious about getting some worms. Are they tricky to maintain?

They are the chillest roommates! I’ve had this colony since 2021. Dog doesn’t mess with it, harvest compost whenever you feel like it, never feel guilty for not eating that salad you brought to work for lunch, and they’re a great conversation starter as guests arrive and hang their coats in the closet. What’s not to like?!

I have never tried but always wanted to. Im going to start a small ventilated kitchen compost with stuff i already have. Its a great way to for me to use up cardboard and junk mail from my camp fire stocks too💚🙌💚 Question: do you move already processed or cold ready to use compost to a secondary bin for storage or switch out bins? Or do you just keep throwing it all together and try to pull from the bottom when you need some for planting?

Yesss! This is my little under the sink bucket. A friend gifted it to me, I think she got it from Amazon. I'm also just getting started but once the compost is broken down, it is best to move it to a larger container outside to finish curing. I plan on using a tote with ventilation holes.

This is so adorable and I love that it actually works! How did you make this? Is it 3d printed?

Yes! I designed it myself, basing it off of my grandmothers full-size composter I 3D printed it on my A1
