Hey plant peeps, I need some creative ideas on how to hold this large baby up. She is a dark stem giant elephant ear (alocasia). I have little clear stakes in but her leaves are too heavy for them, a stem almost snapped due to the weight of the leaf. I don’t know much about moss poles but I don’t believe this plant would need one? I’ve never had a plant this big and heavy but I love her. Idk, help 🙂

Can you give it more light? That will help.

I only have east facing windows, waiting for it to warm up a bit before putting it outside for more light!

Try some outdoor plant stakes, a moss pole wouldn’t help as alocasias don’t have aerial roots to attach to the pole. You’re doing great though, the plant looks super healthy

I’m assuming it’s a regal shield alocasia. Alocasias of this variety can get very large. Some spread is expected from the leaves. They don’t typically need stalking unless you want the leaves touching. Any sturdy pole can be used. A stem too weak to remain upright could mean insufficient light, water or fertilizer. It could also be an older stem dying. Start by giving it more light and adding a pole. It doesn’t need to be a moss pole since aerial roots are not plentiful in this variety. 🍀🪴
