   I grew one this summer. It got more neglect than attention. It still produced at least one baby potato shaped like a long sea lion. 😁. Your post reminded me to check it out You are supposed to put the bottom of the potato in water to get the slip to green up and produce large leaves. You plant the slip like tomato seedlings. I just put half the potato in a pot that had room. It’s a huge pot with lots of soil. Potatoes grow lots of vines that grabbed onto to everything including plant trellises in other pots and patio furniture. I recommend starting next spring since it’s late in the season. Potatoes need all day full sun, lots of water and nutrients to grow. I did not pay special attention and only gave it 5 hours of full sun and minimum fertilizer. So, my yield was negligible.

   My red potato slips were planted when they produced roots, because if you leave slips long enough on a potato they will produce roots without using water.

   Also if you want multiple full sized potatoes, you have to wait for the whole plant to start dying because that indicates that the potatoes have reached full size.
