hi all! i am new to plants and my biggest concern/hurdle right now is that i’m not sure how to set up my plants according to their sun needs. the unit i live in only gets light from northern & eastern windows. do they all need to be under grow lights? would some be okay on the wall with the shoes? don’t know how to group and organize them and it’s stressing me out! i don’t want to kill them ): sorry that this is so long but i would really appreciate any advice! can add more info too

I'm new to most houseplants myself. Aloha Plant Life (YouTube) gives really descriptive advice about lighting that plants need. Her videos on light are grouped by plant needs. She also has videos grouped by plant type that discuss specific needs. She's my main source of info for plant needs.

I don't know how many times I said plant needs but it was a lot. Sorry. 🤣

Hi! Just by looking at your plants, I think most would be fine in an east facing window since many of these plants like a little bit of sun! If you’re cramped for space in the east facing window, I would say the pothos and scindapsus would be fine in a north window, and the spider plant would tolerate as well (but would also do great in east facing). I think you’d only need a grow light for any more sun loving plants like Jades or other succulents or if you wanted the plants farther back from the windows :)

They all like something different, i have my pothos in my kitchen (east and northern) windows. They LOVE it, because I want some of them HUGE i run with them under my grow light. You just have to watch for them drying out. I live at 8000 ft in elevation so I can't put my plants directly in the sun or they will burn. I'm sure my cactus and succulents could handle the heat

All under a light each and everyone is extremely happy and has made growth. I'm also growing strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Not sure if they will eve flower and produce at this elevation

Plant hospital lol. I burned the palm under the grow light. He gets morning sun and what reflects. My poor orchids didn't have drainage and they were pissed.
