Hello Everyone, I recently bought this ficus ginseng plant, i got it in a deal. It had shed a lot of leaves, I suspect, it must be due to lack of sunlight in the store. I gave him a plenty of light in 2 days but it’s still shedding its healthy leaves. Since it’s my first ficus plant, can you please direct the best practice to keep it healthy and dense? Thank you in advance 😊

Ficus are notorious for dropping leaves when stressed. It very likely could just be from bringing it home. I repot everything when it comes home, to check the roots, but it’ll likely cause your plant to drop my leaves. Bright light but no direct sun, nowhere near a vent! Watering is really gonna depend on the soil, etc. I would water then wait about a week to check the soil. You’ll want it to be completely dry before watering again. This may differ because yours is almost in a bonsai set up. I mist every few days just cause I can’t help myself.

Thank you! I also noticed this plant doesn’t have any drainage holes. Do you want me to repot it in a nursery pot and put back in its regular pot?

      That would probably be best!

My ficus (elastica, so slightly different) dropped leaves for the first 2 or 3 weeks I had him. It takes them some time to adjust to being cared for properly. It's also common for ficus plants to drop lower leaves, even if they're happy and healthy. These little guys are growing into trees, so the lower leaves are less important to them as they mature and their stems cork

Hi Hayley, do you recommend repotting or should I wait for 2 weeks and then decide? Thank you

I saw your pot doesn't have drainage holes, so I would recommend repotting. It's so easy to overwater plants that don't have drainage holes. You don't have to repot today, but I would definitely recommend getting it done before you water next
