Can I get a Cliffnotes version for fertilizer? It’s my first time to fertilize. I was over zealous when I decided to be a plant person, so I have a lot of plants now- all different kind. I’d like to know if there is really a general fertilizer? Do I really need to know if they are tropical or not? Some of my “outside” plants are thriving inside. Are they now inside plants? My son has a vegetable garden. Can we share fertilizer? Lastly, do I fertilize in the tank of my bromeliads or do I put it in the soil?

Personally I just use Osmocote which is a slow-release fertilizer. Makes my life a lot easier because I only have to worry about it every 6 months lol. I do also use SuperThrive (plant nutrient) during growing season and for propagations. I use 1/4 tsp per gallon with every watering, but this is optional. To answer your question about bromeliads, if you use a liquid fertilizer, you can use it both in the tank and in the soil. Bromeliads absorb nutrients both through the tank and through their roots, so fertilizing in both places is a good idea.

Sorry, just want to make a correction! Don’t put fertilizer in the tank of your bromeliad. I’ve been doing that to mine but I wont anymore. Just watched a video about this from the YouTube channel Island Breeze Tropicals about this
