My Alocasia Polly has been dropping leaves like crazy šŸ˜– anyone know why?? They all have been yellowing around the edges. I bought it from the nursery with spider mites and have been trying to treat. The roots were also embedded in this netting, so I removed that too and put it in better soil to allow them to breathe. Is there anything else I can do to stop all the leaves from dropping off? I only have three left, and one has been trying to grow in since I bought it a month ago.

Alocasias hate life 😭 lol they cannot handle drying out completely, but they also need a lot of oxygen around their roots. I recommend a more chunky soil with frequent waterings. Even then, they’re very difficult to care for.

I believe I had one from a similar garden. Mine also had the netting around the roots and has been slowly dropping leaves. I’m currently in the process of transitioning to leca, I have mine growing water roots currently

always check new plants for the mesh and remove it!! it’s often used for bulk propagating and transplanting to not disturb the root system and encourage foliage growth instead of rooting. if the mesh is not removed, it can be a plant killer! it is aka a ā€œdeath plugā€ lol

Also as long as there is no rot on the chonk, it can possibly regrow even if it drops all its leaves. I’ve had good experiences with these in pon

      What is pon?

A form of semi hydroponics. It’s just a brand name of lechuza pon. Similar to like leca, but grown in a combination of rocks with no organic matter. it’s a bit of a rabbit hole to start off with but it makes keeping things that are sensitive to drying out a little easier to take care of.

All my Alocasia leaves have gone yellow and dropped. I’ve been told that it’s overwatering. They are very sensitive to overwatering. Has anyone let the soil dry out and then eventually had shoots grow back? I’m wondering if I should throw it out or see if it will revive itself. Anyone know?
