What kind of lighting would you call this?
What kind of lighting would you call this?
At the moment - direct - but if it doesnāt look like that through the day then it becomes something else.
3 Me gustaIs this east facing (morning sun), south (noontime), or west (late afternoon/sunset)?
1 me gustaThen itās fabulous for sun-loving plants like you have now for high, bright afternoon sun. Mornings and noontime they will get indirect sun. āļø In the first picture it looks like some direct rays of the sun are hitting the plants, in the second picture itās getting indirect light.
0 Me gustaI call direct lighting sun light with no obstructions. Those blinds, even though tilted open, are a major obstruction. To me this would be indirect lighting. Definitions for lighting are so imprecise. Everyone has their own take.
2 Me gustaI agree that thereās not a good consensus on light definitions, but from what I understand, if itās a west facing window, it would get bright direct light in the afternoons and bright indirect light in the mornings. If you have any kind of screen or sheer curtain on it, it might be considered bright indirect light at that point instead even in the afternoons. Some people say that any light coming through a window is considered indirect because newer windows block more, but some people still say that itās direct light even through windows š¤·š¼āāļø I do wish this is something we could clarify better as a plant community. I like to measure my light using a cheap light meter to take the guess work out of what kind of light my plant is receiving.
1 me gustaI didnāt even know light meters existed. Iāll look into that 100% do you recommend a brand? When I looked up it said some are are more reliable.
1 me gustaThis is the one that I use which I got on Amazon. I have nothing to compare it to, but itās worked well. It measures in LUX or foot candles. That being said, I am planning to buy a PAR meter soon instead. PAR meters can measure ppfd which is ultimately a more helpful/accurate unit of measurement for light for plants.
1 me gustaOh I so want a light meter now!
