My wife got this plant from a friend who was moving but we have no idea what it is. All the plant identification apps can’t figure it out either. I’m pretty sure it’s some type of succulent because of how thick the leaves are but that’s about it. We have two cats and just want to make sure it’s not toxic to them and also how to care for the plant appropriately. If any experts know please help! Thanks!

I’m stumped on what it is, but it doesn’t look like a kalanchoe to me. Is there any way for your wife to maybe reach out to the friend who previously owed it to ask what it is? In the meantime, I’d try putting it in a room with a door you can close to keep the cats out until you can determine the toxicity. Hope this helps.

Yes we are doing that now until we figure it out. And I’ll see if my wife can check with her friend.

My first thought was an overwatered string of dolphins lol but I’m no expert

it looks like a flattening string of dolphins to me but it's hard to tell. when they don't get enough light, they flatten like this. are there any leaves that may look un-flattened, like a normal string of dolphins? if it is a string of dolphins, they are non-toxic :)

Thanks! I had looked at that dolphin plant because it did look similar except the leaves but if they are usually supposed to be more curled then it’s possible. Unfortunately all the leaves are more flat so I can’t confirm.

It does somewhat resemble a string of dolphins, but if it is a type of senecio, or string of dolphins, those are toxic to pets, including cats.

Could it be a spear head plant? Type of senecio.

This does look similar as well. I’ll have to take a look at some more images and compare. Thank you!
