I am planning on leaving my beloved green friends for a short period of time. At this point, they don’t have a plant sitter as she is pregnant. I’m looking for a self watering system for in-home use. Water globes, and bottles attached to watering stakes may not offer the plant enough water, or so I’ve been told. Could you give me any advice on an item that would serve this purpose well? I like the idea of a plant being watered as it needs it rather than getting water as programmed since I’m afraid of getting a plant too wet. However, I’ve been told that self watering devices may not give enough water to moisture loving plants. What a conundrum! TIA for any comments on the following or maybe better ideas. Regards, 🤗💚🪴

The drip system is going to be your most accurate option. You can set them to drip at a set rate for x amount of time over x amount of days so that gives you the most control over how much water each plant gets. A lot of them have splitters to accommodate up to like 8 plants at once. I don’t know much about watering spikes and how well they work. How long/often you travel determines the level of setup you need too.

TX for your informative post! My head is swimming over this; I sure do appreciate your advice. I hope I get a few more posts to help me determine how effective the stake method is; maybe they will suffice for my plants that need daily water while I’m at home so I don’t have to water them every day! I have at least half a dozen of these daily drinkers, including one that’s in a 10 inch pot and asks for a drink every darn day! I keep thinking I’m gonna kill it with loving kindness… Only time will tell, I guess! 🤗💚🪴

My biggest concern about the automatic drip system is that the plant isn’t controlling how much it drinks, the machine that I program is. I’m just worried that I don’t program it right, and I’m not at home, and my plant gets waterlogged; not a good situation! Have you used one of these automated waterers or have you seen others use it? 🤗💚🪴

They are usually set my mL per second/minute/hour etc. So you can calculate about how much you water the plant and input the drip to be at that rate over x amount of time, so the plant won’t be waterlogged. I haven’t used them but have watched some videos on them in case I ever need one. Kill This Plant on YouTube has a video experimenting with them.

Could always try this method. The plants will take what they need while your gone

I’m guessing that’s a DIY project, right? Interesting… Looks pretty simple and easy to do. TXS for the post; I appreciate it! Regards, 🤗💚🪴
