Anyone here a mycologist? I found this mould/fungus growing on my rabbits foot fern and I'm curious to know what It is. I wanna say possibly a type of penicillium. I'm gonna get it off and repot in something better ventillated, water less, and keep the fan on in hopes I can save him. I'm worried about my boy...he's my favorite plant and one of the longest I've had so far.

You could also try neem oil!! That’s what I used, the captain jack’s that was a fungicide as well, I’m not sure if all neem oil is I’m still a little bit new to this plant 🌱 parent stuff!!

Also cinnamon is a natural fungicide so what I did as well was scrape the fungus off the top and then sprinkle it with the cinnamon and then water when it’s time and over time it will work it’s way through the soil, I covered the top layer in cinnamon, I didn’t just sprinkle lol but it’s natural and farmers have been using it in their crops for year’s and it definitely helped my situation!! I had it bad cuz I was an extremely new plant 🌱 parent so I was overwatering and that’s what caused mine.

It looks like a type of slime mold. Generally these mold or fungi are in the potting soil/material and grow with the right environment. They are almost never harmful to the plant. But i will say growth of them will generally indicate moist environment, sometimes too moist depending on the plant species, so keep an eye on watering. A general dilution of 1:3 peroxide(3%): water either poured on or spritzed over the mold/fungus will kill it. Scooping out the main portion first helps. Also sterilizing potting mix prior to use will kill off and spores it contains.

Thanks! Does look more like slime mold to me.too now that I look more. Does it really go away with dryer conditions? Unfortunately, it's a fern and I have multiple herbs both of which get crispy if I let them dry out.

Aaww gotcha so prefers damp. I'd just scoop it out and keep an eye on it. Eventually you should be able to get all the spores out, even if you dont want to treat it with peroxide solution.
