I’m not sure what is going on with my Dieffenbachia plant but I saw it look like this today. I’m going to clip the yellow part of the stem off and put it into water to let it grow roots but does anyone have any idea what is going on?

It looks like it may have rotted. I want to assume probably from overwatering but I’m not positive.

Well the good news is, if you chop & prop, you can get rid of the extra stem length. All those nodes will happily put out roots in water. Based on the stem length and the number of leaves, I’d guess he wasn’t getting enough light. Does his pot have drainage?

The pot has drainage but the clipping came like this. I got it about a year ago and let it grow roots and then put it into a pot but the stem has always been lanky like this

Lighting also isn’t really an issue I don’t think because it’s right by the window in my living room
