If you just got it, give it a week or two to adjust to the new surroundings before repotting as a general rule. Slide the nursery pot off the dirt/roots (you may have to squeeze the sides to loosen it up a little and check how prominent the roots are. If they’re layering in circles at the bottom of the pot or if they’re taking up 70%+ of the pot volume then repotting is a good move. Plants don’t do well in pots that are much bigger than their root ball, so you’ll want to get a pot 1-2” larger than the current one. Use your fingers (or something like a pencil or chopstick) to loosen up the roots and shake out some of the old dirt. Put 1-2” of the new potting mix in the bottom of the pot, place the plant on top, and backfill, pausing every once in a while to knock on the sides and encourage the potting mix to settle in among the roots. Once you’re done, water the plant and try to pay attention to how heavy it is. That way you can gauge whether it’s time to water again by how much lighter it is in comparison. I let mine dry out 75/100% of the way before I water again.

Also: if you want the plant to get bushier, pinch off the little top tuft on the stem. Keep doing that every 2-3 weeks until it feels bushy enough, then let it be to encourage it to grow up instead of out.

I just did it to mine this morning but it’ll be a small green thing maybe 1/4-1/2”in height that kind of looks like it has the beginnings of a new leaf

I always repot right away hehe 🫢 I prefer this so I can get eyes on the roots and control the growing medium — this works for me and more than once I’ve avoided major issues as a result. No real adjustment occurs in the span of a week or so, so I feel it’s best to get it all out of the way up top & then let the adjustment commence
