Hey guys! I’ve had this Jade leaf planted for almost a year now. It does have roots and has slowly gotten bigger. I’ve been waiting so patiently for it to actually sprout into more of a plant instead of just a leaf. Is there anything I can do it help it do that? or do I just need to wait forever lol I’m also thinking about repotting it into a bigger pot soon. One of the ones you can see behind it in the picture that are an inch larger in diameter. The pot it’s in now has rocks in the bottom (to prevent root rot) and I’m thinking maybe it just needs more space to grow more? The plant it was taken from was so strong and cool. Theres a picture of it towards the beginning of my plant photos on the profile. I thought it would’ve grown more by now based on its mom.

Do you know for sure that the mother plant is a crassula ovata and not a trailing jade pepperomia? I was looking at the photos of the plant and the big one at the end looks more like a trailing jade to me. I have both plants and think they’re both lovely, but I just wasn’t sure if you knew. As for the propagation, I think for both plants you kind of just have to wait. Since it’s been a year though, it might be worth looking into if there’s any growth hormones that might help push it to develop a stem and more leaves. I can’t point you towards a specific hormone, as I’ve never propagated a trailing jade pepperomia, and for my crassula ovata I never had any issues with it becoming a full plant

All I knew was that it was some sort of jade & scanned it with the app to identify it. It’s so weird how the one picture for the trailing jade doesn’t look right. Regardless I trust your judgement fully & changed it. I’m so glad you told me! This is so helpful! I’m definitely going to turn it to its side as Polkira suggested, take care of it with the new accurate info, and if that doesn’t help I’ll look into the hormones. Thank you so much !!

Yeah, they don’t always choose the most representative image for what pops up in the scans lol. And to be fair, the leaf shapes are very similar, so a young trailing jade and a crassula ovata would look essentially the same. Overall, it’s the way the big plant had grown and the way it’s younger leaves were coming in that tells them apart. I’m so glad someone showed up that had specific experience propagating your plant, I’d definitely try what Polkira suggested as it seems sound to me. I wish you the best of luck for your little jade!

It’s a year. Nothing more is going to happen. If still available, get a stem cutting from original plant. They root in a few weeks in succulent soil.

I appreciate your advice. I’m not ready to give up just yet but if these changes don’t work then I’ll accept the loss

It took my leaf 2 years to actually start growing more plant. I recommend laying the leaf on the soil rather than sticking the end in it, I've had quicker results that way

I had it laid down at first & then it grew roots in the soil. When I replanted it in its pot I put it more up & down like that. Omg I’ve been trying to grow it sideways this whole time! 😭😂 No wonder it’s not working! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I just tried to make it more sideways in there. It’s pretty sturdy in its vertical position but I got it somewhat diagonal at least. Thank you!

In my defence, my leaf was stuck in the pot with the mother plant so I didn't pay it much thought lol

Trust it’s been killing me slowly. The sunk cost fallacy is most likely what’s keeping me going atp 😂
