I have this sad arrowhead + a begonia that it’s on its way out + a sickly pothos. I think I messed up in a few areas but need guidance. - I use grow lights 12 hours/day - I follow the Planta instructions for watering - I gave them some plant food (first time) around 2 weeks ago and followed ratio directions. Soon after, I saw all my plants droop, and leaves yellow. They were not rebounding so a week ago I repotted them in their same pots, but attempt to blot dry the soil with paper towels. I removed some root rot and I also added a decent amount of perlite to help with drainage. This arrowhead was completely dry 2 days ago and staring to droop. I added the smallest bit of water. 2 days later we have no improvement. The two questions I had are, should I always replace big box store soil with something that drains better? And should I not feed plants this young?

Planta usually has you water too frequently. You should always check the soil with your finger or a chopstick to see if it’s needed. As far as the soil goes, if there was root rot, I would not reuse the soil. I always change out the soil when I get a new plant. But that’s just me. Others will leave them alone for a while before changing anything. A lot of plant care is trial and error. I don’t think the plant food is the issue. I think overwatering is. But plants are resilient! Dry them out and see if they bounce back

I agree with Heather O on all the things! The apps schedule is a suggestion. Everyone’s space and conditions are different, so it will never be exact. Use it as a reminder to check soil, using your finger or a chopstick. Only water when it’s needed. If you’re repotting due to rot, you don’t want to use the same soil. My method is remove all the dirt, cut away any rot. Let the plant sit bare roots for an hour or two. Then repot into new dry soil, and water 2-3 days after that. I feel this lets the roots callous over and then not shock them right away with water again. Overwatering will never be the volume of water you use (as long as your pot has drainage). But will be the frequency that you water. So if your plant was dry, and you only used a small amount of water, it may not have been enough to do anything for it. Again, as Heather O said…plant care is trial and error. Don’t get discouraged when things don’t seem to be going well. Learn, propagate, and keep trying :)

Do a full water every time, do not give a little water. Are you watering fully? I put mine in the bathtub and water until it starts running out of the drainage. That could be why it dries out so fast
