Hello Everyone šŸ«¶šŸ¼ I am very new to this plant life lol. I recently got 4 plant babies (2 didn’t make it in the pic for some reason) anywhooo, I plan to repot them soon because 2 already have roots coming out the drainage holes & my aloe’s leaves seem a litte large for the pot. My main concern is, can i use regular miracle gro potting mix with some extra perlite added in for my aloe plant? I didn’t think to get a soil mix specifically for my aloe 😢 Any advice or tips is much appreciated! Thank you

I have done exactly that for my Aloe and it’s been fine!

Roots coming out of the drainage holes does not necessarily mean they need to be repotted. Some plants just grow out of the drainage holes before filling the pot. I attached a picture of one of my plants to show this.

Thank you for that! My aloe isn’t the one with roots coming out, its my spider plant. The roots are coming out & i think it may be a little big for that pot? Plus i just noticed a few brown tips that weren’t there a couple days ago. I attached a picture, let me know what you think. Only two roots are coming out, it looks just like yours honestly.

The only way to know if it needs a repot is to pop it out of the pot and look at the roots. If the roots are taking up more than half the pot, then I’d repot, if not, I’d leave it. Spider plants will tolerate/like to be a little tight in their pot as well if that helps.

100% agree with PlantLady! Also, brown tips on spider plants are very normal. They’re a bit sensitive to tap water so that will lead to the brown tips. Feel free to cut them off, if you’d like, but you don’t have to. I leave my tap water out overnight to help evaporate some of the minerals.

Aloe leaves tend to get very large without needing to get repotted, so I would leave that one alone

large leaves on any plant would not determine the size pot it’s in. always go by the roots/rootball. the pot should only be 1-2ā€ bigger than the roots/rootball. if you go too big, the plant could develop root rot. in addition, the plant will spend all of its energy filling the pot with roots and not pushing out new leaves.
