So this is my beautiful spider plant, i didn't think it was that long ago that I checked if she needed a repot (maybe 3 wks ago) and she had roots poking out the bottom but they weren't thick or strong. Tn, to my surprise as I was watering, this thick root is sticking out. I'm not crazy right? That's a giant root sticking out from the bottom? I've heard spider plants like to be a little root bound but is she ready for a repot?

They get these tuber like roots, I would probably say she's ready for an upgrade.

Depends. They grow pups when mature and a bit root bound, so hold off if that’s the goal. Repot if you just want mama to get bigger and bigger!

It doesn’t look like you’ve got any pup stems so I would think you’re safe to re pot. Pup stems grow in between the leaves id say they’re like stems, they open up and look like wheat grass. That’s where the pups grow from. These are a whole new plant from the actual plant itself and doesn’t need so much propagation the ones you snip off I call babies.

She does have about 4 pups rn. I took one from her a few weeks ago that was mature enough and it is doing great. If she had pups should I hold off?

Mine is 25+ years old in the OG pot and just put out 17 babies last week. So, up to you really!

I agree I would repot until she had pup stems

The roots are pretty impressive on these. The test for me is if it starts to get hydrophobic—you water and it just kind of sheds the water rather than soaking in. Then you really need a repot. If it is still absorbing water well, I might wait to repot, you just have an escaping root.
