I was surprised to see a bud in my Chinese evergreen. I didn’t know they bloomed. I read in several places that you should cut the blooms off because the plant will put all its energy into the flower. Is this true? Does anyone have experience with this?

Yes, that's true with all plants, that the majority of energy will go to procreation/multiplication

If you want the energy to be put more towards the leaves, then yes, cutting the flower before it blooms is good. You’ll want to cut it down as far as possible to the base of the stem. The sap from the blooms is also toxic, particularly if ingested by animals, and some have skin reactions to it as the sap contains micro-crystals. So it’s up to you, but I’d personally recommend it if you’ve got any little ones or pets in the house to reduce the risk of any problems. Hope this helps! The leaves are beautiful!

The flowers aren’t that pretty imo. I cut the buds off.

I have a Chinese Evergreen that recently did the same thing, but nothing ever developed; it just stayed a green bud. Eventually, I cut it off, and opened it up; it looked like a dried up stamen, not much to write home about!
