Help! My mum’s Jade Plant has been with her for over 3 years now. She changed the pot a few weeks ago and so many leaves have been dropping dead for the last week or two. Today two whole branches just fell off! Does anyone know why this might be? She’s always kept it on this south facing window and she’s now used well draining soil. Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Have you checked for mealybugs or any other pests? Some pests like mealybugs slowly kill a plant by sucking the sap out of their leaves. What brand soil is it in? Specifically succulent soil?

While you try to deduce the cause of the leaf and branch loss, do you need any help with propagating them? You can keep all the leaves and stem if you prop them, and eventually place the rooted pieces back into the plant or form a new plant if you’d like

I don’t think it’s any pests, we can’t see any. It’s in a multi purpose soil, which she’s used in the past already. It’s branded as well drainage, and it also has some little fertiliser balls.

Yes please! How do you do so? Sorry, I’m a newbie!

Is there perlite in the soil (they look like small white rocks), or stuff added for drainage like coconut coir, orchid bark, wood chips, etc.? (It should say the contents of the soil on the bag). How often does she water it? Does she allow the soil to dry out completely before rewatering it? (Sorry for so many questions. Just trying to use process of elimination to help you find the cause of this)

And as for propagating, place all the broken pieces near a window and allow them to callous (then brown at the end. That’s good and necessary for rooting) for 24-76 hours, then place the pieces on top of a small pot with succulent soil. I use Espoma’s Cactus and succulent mix. Please avoid anything miracle grow brand for this. Their stuff is infamous for killing plants, even their succulent soil. Poke small holes into the top of the soil under where you’ve placed the leaves and stem that broke and use an eye dropper or small spoon to add drops of water into the holes. Repeat when the hole is completely dry (every couple of days). This will tell the plant to grow their roots downward and eventually fill the hole. Once the pieces have developed enough roots, pop their roots into the holes and keep gently removing them from the holes until they’ve really developed strong roots. Once they have, leave them in their spots or plant them back in with the original plant they broke off from, and water the plant regularly. Hope this helps!

Whenever a leaf falls off my jade plant and lands in the soil it usually just reroots on its own and a new plant begins. They seem to thrive in a sunny window when left alone and watered weekly.

As for the branch I might try a little rooting hormone and then putting it in some soil in a pot.
