I desperately need to repot this plant! But I am very nervous with repotting? Anyone can give tips on recommended pot size and soil? I also think this is multiple plants in one. This soil has been staying damp and this plant bas been sad for too long.

Definitely remove anything that looks dead, check the roots for root rot, use a mixture of soil with peat moss and perlite and I would maybe suggest trying to bottom water this one and see if she’s doing any better in a few days

Bottom watering will just add to the problem if the soil isn’t draining

Not necessarily, if you’re already changing the soil it won’t be a problem because the soils will be better draining.

This is a calathea and they kinda grow like grass (each leaf pops up come a little bulb in the soil) so there needs to be many in a pot or it’ll look like a single blade of grass on a lawn. When repotting, keep the root ball as intact as you can because they have very shallow and delicate roots. Use a medium that holds water well. They are super thirsty.

It’s staying damp because that pot is too big. I’m going to assume that it will have rot as well. Remove any mushy dead roots when you repot it. I always add a chunky orchid bark mix into a peat based soil for better drainage. And always let them dry out at least 75% of the pot before watering again

Thank you! I assumed it was way too big, it also used to be a larger plant but started to die a little. I also assume it has root rot. I appreciate your insight

Since you’re keeping the soil wet try using a chunky soil mix, I like a mix of indoor potting mix, perlite, coco choir, and orchid bark. You can also cut any dead leaves to allow new growth. Also make sure your pot has draining for the amount of water you’re giving it.
