I had some tissue cultures come in the mail today. I contacted the company because the roots on the pothos and the monstera are very dark and I was concerned there is root rot. They said that mature roots can just be darker. What do you think? Should I cut off anything dark? Do they look OK to you? I do appreciate that I got quick responses from the company.

Hello! I would personally potentially be concerned but I’ve also received some with less than that! The agar can be deceptive. Have you taken care of tc before? Here was the state of my last one with the temp in the bottle near freezing and the plant is doing well so far.

The leaves on your Marylin would stress me out more than the roots if I might add.

Yeah I’m not thrilled with the condition they arrived in. Maybe it’s the cold, but it’s been reasonably warm lately. I’m guessing I should cut off the one really bad leaf on the Marilyn? I do have two monstera tissue cultures that are doing very well. I hope these new ones will survive.

Do you normally do the 2-3 day wait before planting them? Their condition is stressing me out and making it harder for me to wait. Thank you so much for your response!

I would take pics/video unpacking. To help for refund if needed

Tissue culture plants tend to sacrifice their TC roots when moved into soil and grow new ones, so it's not a concern. As long as the plant itself is big enough and it's kept in high humidity and acclimated gently, it'll root up just fine. Making sure it's secure and not able to shake around in its medium can help
