Hi, I’m having Peace Lily issues. It only loses leaves and rarely gains any new ones. And the pot has these whitish spots on the top. I did just water it right before this photo was taken so it’ll probably perk up a little more. Thinking maybe a grow light and more frequent watering….thoughts? Thanks!

“little but often” is a good rule of thumb for PL. more light than this is getting — an east facing window would do the trick. terra cotta isn’t the best choice for these hydration divas — glazed ceramic or nursery in a cover pot the white on the pot is no biggie — just from the water.

Thanks. I’ll do the water thing and I have a grow light on the way anyway. I don’t have but one east facing window and it’s not able to have plants in front of it, which is why grow lights lol. I’ll look at changing its pot too.

I just want to add, my husband has had great success with his peace lily by using one of those aqua globes, even in terracotta. That way, the soil pretty much always stays consistently moist. If changing the planter isn’t a good option for you.

White stuff is minerals from the water. You can prevent that with distilled water if it’s affecting the plant.

I did start watering it with filtered water today so maybe that’ll help.

I had the same problem and I just repotted her today. Hopefully she’ll recover and yours as well.

I actually like when terracotta pots look this way. But agree as others have said I would definitely switch to a less porous pot for a peace lily 😊🪴

Thanks for the feedback! I did repot it to a ceramic pot.

I just had to chime in here. I have had my Peace Lilies for over 13 years now. All 3 of them started from one 6inch pot all those years ago. What has worked for me is plastic pots with good drainage, letting them get DRY, and putting each one in a dish tub when it’s time to water and drenching them. Once they’ve stopped draining they go back in their plastic trays. I also take them outside for their summer vacation as I live in southern NH. They are never in direct sunlight even outside as they live under our front area overhang and when I bring them back inside they live in my living room where they get indirect light from our deck sliders that are south facing. This summer they were blooming like crazy each had a dozen or more blooms at a time. So I brought them back inside at the end of September and as of right now the 3 of them all have new BLOOMS!!!! I’m here if I can help answer any questions. The left picture is all three of them and the right picture is of 2 of the blooms.

Those look great! I appreciate the feedback and advice. I’m in TN and have dehumidifiers in our home too so I definitely have a drier climate indoors than typical for this area. I do have it in a ceramic pot now with a grow light and will have to experiment with the watering schedule thru the winter I think.

Thanks for responding. I hope my thoughts will be helpful. I will tell you that as it grows out it in a plastic pot or it will get way to heavy even my three in plastic pots are getting almost too heavy to lift. Also be very careful with your grow light. They do best with light indirect light so I would put your light away from it so that it’s not getting burned, cause the leaves can burn from too much light. Just want you to succeed. Please keep me posted.

I put my grow light on the lowest setting so we will see how that does. The plant is about 10 feet from the nearest window so the grow light is its main source.
