I never know how much water to put on my plants ??? I don’t know if the app tells me how much water to use for each plant or I’m just missing it. Any information would be great.

I’ve noticed that the app isn’t great with the frequency of watering.. it was telling me to water mine when the soil still looked damp. I ended up buying a moisture meter and stick it in my pots to see if the soil is dry or still damp. This meter showed me that I was in fact overwatering my petunias, and has helped a LOT with figuring out when my babies need watering or not. Hope this helps :))

I’m glad you found something that helped!❤️ Make sure you have pot size, type, soil type, etc. filled in on each plant or it’s going to do worse at telling you when to water. Ultimately it’s just a guide and you’ll have to check the plant on the watering day to see if it needs to be snoozed for 2 more days. Everyone’s home is just a bit different.

That’s awesome. I am going to buy one of those usually I just stick my finger in there, but I’m sick of washing my hands. lol

Before I got one of these I used a toothpick and if soil stuck to it, it shows it’s still damp, but the toothpicks just aren’t long enough to reach the bottom of my pots so this meter changed my life!

For anyone reading this, if you are going to use the stick method try a chopstick or skewer so it reaches the bottom. If your pot is still too deep, you can try sticking a chopstick or skewer into the bottom drainage holes to see how wet it is. Hopefully that helps anyone who can’t get a moisture meter.❤️

      How much does this cost?

Planta isn’t going to tell you how much water. It will tell you what kind of soil and how often. As long as you have those correct and the right pot size. Don’t worry, you can’t overwater it at one time. 😊 You can leave it in a tub of water for an hour and the dirt will only suck up a preset amount of water. When you take it out, the excess will drain out. Overwatering happens by watering too often, having too big of a pot, no drainage, or too dense of a soil for that plant.

a bamboo skewer or chopstick (or your fingers) is a much more accurate measurement of the soil’s moisture. only wet media will stick to the skewer, much like testing a cake when baking. unfortunately the battery powered moisture meters aren’t very reliable, as they measure the conductivity of the soil and not its moisture directly. this can be extra problematic if you’re using an airy mix as air pockets will read as dry even if the media is wet.

Thanks for that extra explanation Plant Father! I mostly use a meter but it makes sense why my “mini monstera” TANKED when I switched it to soilless medium. The moisture meter said “dry” even though it had only been a week. Now she’s just yellow and prolly not gonna make it. Live and learn! Note to PLANTA; I need to be able to tag PLANT FATHER (and other super experienced folks - since I’m “medium” experienced) when I’m having an issue. 😬

Very interesting idea, I wonder how they could implement that. 🤔 I see new plant owners give bad advice to other new plant owners without admitting they are also newbies. It makes me nervous they will take that advice before someone more experienced chimes in. 😬 I just give my opinion as well and hope more people chime in as well so the poster can take the advice that has more of a consensus. I also love when people have their profile public because it helps you see if they have that plant, if it looks healthy, if they just got it yesterday 😄, if they have several of that kind of plant, etc. It also helps everyone to diagnose their problem because you can see the pot, soil, growing conditions, and even pictures of what their plant used to look like.

YES Succulent ❤️ Mama!!! Initially I didn’t have my profile public because I thought “creepy” but then I found myself looking to see others profile to gauge how experienced they are. I’ve also seen a person get REALLY upset when multiple people said the same thing. My response back was much like yours. People have such varying experiences and I want newbies to realize that some of the advice is better than others.

I didn’t even realise there was an option to change privacy until now!😂 thanks for that:)
