I’ve had this for several days and I haven’t seen them close at all. 🥲 It’s already trapped one fruit fly but it’s just there with the trap open and not doing anything. I take them out on my patio for sunshine very day (4-6 hours) and make sure they stay moist. Is there something else I should do?

If you want to see them close, you can feed it a rehydrated bloodworm. The traps die after a few closes so I would only feed a few. I wouldn’t feed it more than once a month. Keep it standing in distilled or rain water. Also you’ll want a soil made specifically for carnivorous plants or sphagnum moss. It needs bright light. A lot of bright light. If they’re getting enough light, their traps will typically turn a bright red. I have mine under a grow light for 16 hours. I’ve attached a picture for reference. Please ignore the dead traps. It needs cleaned out but I hate doing it since it’s difficult without triggering other traps.

Also if they start getting leggy that typically means they need more light. You want them to stay more compact.

So I read it might also be in dormancy because of the colder weather. How do I know if that’s the case?

Beautiful! One plant I have loved but have never had any luck with. However, you have encouraged me to try again!

Dormancy is just around the corner in November when it gets cold enough to trigger it. They will look half dead and the traps will be closer to the ground with shorter leaves. I live where they grow wild so I keep them outside all winter and they love it. They will even freeze solid sometimes 🥶
