How much light to Monsteras really need? I read one thing, I hear another then see another. What kind of light does yours get if you have one?

The light seems to be irrelevant as long as it is not very dark. So a shady to sunny spot is fine with these guys.

Hi, I find there often are varying opinions on pretty much everything, so asking around is always a good idea. Mine gets very bright indirect light most of the day from a SE and S corner windows exposure. At certain times of the year I do diffuse the light or open my blinds entirely depending on the angle of the sun and any cloud cover. I think much depends on your home location with reference to sun exposure and the location in the room where it is, relative to the windows. Meaning, if you live where most of your sun exposure is north or north east, you may need to put it next to an easterly facing window and possibly add a grow light. The photo I added is of the SE corner. I just gave mine a heavy trimming at the bottom half where branches were unruly and extending too far into the room. I hope this has been somewhat helpful🪴

I love the way yours looks with the trimmed bottom half!

Mine do best in a south window, or under a grow light. They will survive in less light. But you usually won't get as many leaves or fenestration

My big monstera loves direct afternoon sun and actively grows towards it.

It depends on the plant. I’ve moved mine about 6 times in 15 years. It started indoors and hated my northeast windows. I moved it outside to get late afternoon sun. It grew very slowly. I moved it to get 6 hours of 1/2 sun, 1/2 shade and it has been happy as long as I move it inside before the roots freeze. I bring it back outside when the cold leaves about a week later. it’s happy. It’s outside 50 weeks a year. The photo shows the light it gets.

They can survive in relatively low light but the leaves will be smaller, less frequent, and minimally-fenestrated/pinnated. Fenestrations are directly linked to light levels. Leaf size is going to be a combo of physical support and light. I have never had an indoor monstera without grow lights want less light than it was getting, even in south windows.

Thank you everyone for your sharing your experiences with your monstera's! I was gifted a one leaf cutting a few months ago and for now I have it in my plant room that I am (slowly) putting together. The room only has one window that faces East but gets blocked by an outside wall; Because of that, all plants in there are under grow lights and I wasn't sure where to place my Monstera in reference to the light. Was super awesome to read everyone's experience and learn how versatile they can be when it comes to light.
