When I bought these moon cacti, they were both the same shade of red. Than, the right one started growing a “leg” that I since chopped off. Now, it’s turning orange and has a split in it. Is it ok??

The colored moon cactus does not contain enough chlorophyll to support itself so it is grafted onto a dragon fruit stalk. It is parasitic and feeds off of the dragon fruit. When the moon cactus starts to fail to leach the nutrients from the dragon fruit, the moon cactus will decline and the dragon fruit stalk will start to grow. That was likely the leg that you cut off. Some people remove the cactus at that point and grow out the dragon fruit. Some even get flowers and fruit.

That is normally why plants etoliate (reach for light) but these are a little different because they are grafted. I went back and looked at your other post and it was definitely the dragon fruit trying to grow. Moon cactus aren’t a very long lived species in general and once they start to decline, it can be difficult to bring them back.
